Harold Camping will make public statement on Monday (PHOTOS)
Family Radio president Harold Camping, whose May 21, 2011 Doomsday prediction failed, has told International Business Times (IBTimes) on Sunday , May 22, 2011 that he needed some time to think and recover before giving a public statement.
Camping, who has refused to meet the media since the night of May 20, 2011, told IBTimes that he had to live with it.
The Doomsday prophet has made a prediction that the World would come to an end on May 21, 2011 at 6 p.m. with 200 million people witnessing Rapture and the rest perishing on earth in a series of natural disasters, including earthquake that would make the Japan’s recent earthquake “look like a Sunday school picnic in comparison.” The world will be destroyed completely on October 21, 2011.
Camping had relied on Bible verses Genesis 7:4 (“Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth”) and 2 Peter 3:8 (“With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day”) to come up with the date May 21, 2011 as the Doomsday. The date was supposed to be exactly 7,000 years after the Great Flood (4990 B.C.).
2011 + 4990 – 1 = 7000 (the subtraction of “1” is due to the fact that there is no year 0 between 1 B.C. and 1 A.D.).
About the calculation, Camping was “without any shadow of a doubt it (Doomsday) is going to happen.”
However when no violent earthquake rocked the world on May 21, 2011, Camping’s followers, who were preparing for the Judgment Day by quitting their jobs and selling their possessions, were devastated. The whereabouts of Camping also could not be traced.
On Sunday, May 22, 2011, IBTimes reporters in San Francisco tracked Camping down at his house in Alameda, Calif. Camping, who looked tired and dazed, told IBTimes that he will not be giving any interviews. “Give me a day, no interviews at all today. Sorry. You know this is a big deal, big deal, and I've got to live with it and I've got to think it out. So no interviews”.
Camping also told IBTimes, when he was not being recorded on video, that he will explain everything at a public forum on Monday night. However, he did not say exactly when he will be making the public statement.
“We (Family Radio) will operate as normal tomorrow,” Camping said.
The whole world will be eagerly watching Camping tomorrow and paying attention to every word he says because his false prediction has hurt many people who had put their trust in him, especially his followers, some of whom sold their possessions and even quit their jobs to prepare for the Judgment Day.
