The “Harry Potter” cast reunited virtually to celebrate the 19th anniversary of the franchise’s first film, “Sorcerer’s Stone,” Saturday and reminisced about their days on the set.
The virtual reunion, hosted by Tom Felton who Draco Malfoy in the films, was held via the platform Veeps. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), Oliver and James Phelps (Fred and George Weasley), Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas), Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley) and Jason Isaacs (Lucious Malfoy) all joined the virtual chat, E! News reported.
"I remember on 'Potter' it would always be the most inappropriate scenes, like Dumbledore's funeral was a particularly bad one. For some reason, I found that absolutely hilarious," Grint, who is a newcomer on Instagram, recalled.
"And yeah, once you start laughing, it's very hard to stop. I had a particularly bad reputation, they used to call me 'Go Again Grint' because I could never do anything without doing it like 20 times,” he added.
The new dad also recalled how he and Radcliffe had to film the scene of their characters' first meeting at Hogwarts separately because they couldn’t keep a straight face when they saw each other.
Felton first announced his reunion plans last month, saying he will try to “wrangle all the oldies back together again to celebrate the achievement." Indeed, gathering the cast of “Harry Potter” for this virtual meeting proved to be a difficult task.
“I saw the Weasley twins [James and Oliver Phelps] the other day. We went out to play some golf. Always chatting with a lot of the other guys on WhatsApp and staying in touch with them and making sure everything’s alright,” Felton said.
It is also worth noting that one of the main stars, Emma Watson, who played the intelligent Hermione Granger, was missing in the virtual reunion. Still, the “Harry Potter” actors remain connected via WhatsApp, Felton revealed.
While the 20th anniversary is still a year away, Radcliffe is already anticipating a bigger reunion for 2021.
"My first thoughts are that this is but a mere preview of the nostalgia we'll be immersed in next year when it hits 20 years since the first film was released," he said.
This came a few days after Grint showed off photos of his and girlfriend Georgia Groome’s first child Wednesday via social media. The longtime couple welcomed their daughter in May.
