“Another great person passed away, we’re really heart broken! Our prayers and love for styles & Robin’s family! rest in peace angel. #RIPRobin,” another fan wrote.
Twist married Styles’ mother Anne Cox in 2013 where the singer served as his best man in the ceremony, according to TMZ. Styles also gave a speech at the reception which he admitted was “the most nerve-wracking thing” he had ever done.
“I practiced on my own for days beforehand, on the sofa reciting it to myself. I tried to make it have a bit of everything,” the singer told The Sun at the time. Twist was instrumental in raising Styles. Coming into the singer’s life at 7 years old, he was a father figure for the star and his sister Gemma.
The patriarch was also present during Styles’ rise to fame while he competed on “X Factor” and eventually won a spot in One Direction. Cox and Twist celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary together in early June. Cox shared a special Instagram post thanking those for their well wishes.
Aside from his relationship with Cox, Twist has two other children from a previous marriage that survive him.
Styles’ rep released a statement to People on Thursday, addressing Twist’s death. “Harry’s step-father, Robin Twist, sadly passed away this week after a long battle with cancer. The family asks for privacy at this time,” the statement read.
Styles’ isn’t the first One Direction member to lose a parent. In December, group member Louis Tomlinson lost his mother Johannah Deakin following her battle with leukemia.
After his mother’s death, Tomlinson’s rep issued a statement addressing the passing. “It is with immeasurable sadness that Johannah Deakin's family said goodbye to Johannah in the early hours of Wednesday 7th December 2016,” the family statement read.
“Earlier this year Johannah was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia that required immediate and continuous treatment. We respectfully request that the family are given time and space to grieve in private.”

Fans also stood by Tomlinson during this time, tweeting their condolences following his loss. On Dec. 10, Tomlinson was scheduled to perform on “X Factor” and thanked fans for their support.
“All the support has been incredible! Let’s do this together tonight,” he tweeted before taking the stage.
Since Twist’s passing, Styles has remained silent on social media.
