Hartley Sawyer has deleted his Twitter account after issuing an apology over his racist and misogynist tweets from years ago.
Sawyer decided to turn his back from Twitter after his controversial tweets from eight years ago resurfaced. The tweets that were racist and misogynist by nature were no longer accessible in his account, but screenshots of their tweets were making the rounds online.
His decision to delete his Twitter account has received mixed reactions from other Twitter users.
“The Hartley Sawyer apology. He deleted his twitter!” one wrote.
“Sawyer has deleted his Twitter account & posted an apology on his Instagram account,” another netizen wrote.
“Did Hartley Sawyer delete his Twitter? @CW_TheFlash he doesn't deserve to be fired for actions they regret from nearly a decade ago, it was wrong, yes but in 8 years a lot can change,” @arrowverse2001 opined.
“Yes he did delete his twitter,” Brittany Elizabeth commented.
One also asked why Sawyer didn’t delete his Twitter account before his tweets resurfaced.
Sawyer already issued an apology over his tweets on Instagram. He admitted that he only wanted attention at the time and regretted his actions.
“My words, irrelevant of being meant with an intent of humor, were hurtful, and unacceptable. I am ashamed I was capable of these really horrible attempts to get attention at that time. I regret them deeply,” he wrote.
He understood that his behavior was unacceptable and apologized profusely. He also stressed that he is already a changed man.
“I am incredibly sorry, ashamed, and disappointed in myself for my ignorance back then. I want to be very clear: this is not reflective of what I think or who I am now.”
Meanwhile, his co-star Grant Gustin said he was “shocked, saddened and angry” when he saw Sawyer’s tweets.
