KEY POINTS

  • Harvey Weinstein has been accused of sexually harassing a former Polish model
  • In a complaint, she claimed that she was just 16 when the incident happened and doesn't want to be a part of the "global settlement"
  • She also confessed that she did file a complaint in 2018 under a "pseudonym"

It seems the troubles for Harvey Weinstein are not over yet. Just a few days back it was announced that Weinstein and his company, The Weinstein Co., has done a $25 million settlement with all the women who have accused him of sexual harassment. But the announcement took a high-voltage jolt when a former model refused to be a part of the settlement and alleged that the disgraced producer sexually assaulted her when she was 16.

According to Variety, a model named Kaja Sokola from Poland has filed a complaint against the business mogul for sexually harassing her in the year 2002 when she came to the U.S. to work as a model. As per the complaint, Weinstein met her and asked her to come for lunch so that he could help her pursue an acting career.

She further stated that she agreed to have lunch with him, but everything changed when his driver took Weinstein and Sokola to his apartment instead. At that exact moment, she claims that Weinstein sexually assaulted her.

“Harvey Weinstein picked Sokola up with his company-provided car and driver. But instead of taking her to lunch, as promised, Harvey Weinstein took Sokola without her consent to his apartment. He would not let her leave after he terrified and sexually abused her,” the complaint read.

In the complaint, the former model also insisted that she does not want to be part of the settlement because she believes that by giving money Weinstein is just avoiding the accountability of what he has done to her and many others.

Not just Harvey, but his brother Robert has also been named in the complaint. The model and her lawyers claimed that his brother not only knew about his malicious activities but also “assisted” him in “paying off victims to silence them.”

“Ensuring that future victims had no way to protect themselves,” the complaint stated.

Sokola is now suing both the Weinstein brothers, their company Miramax and Disney for knowing everything about Harvey’s predatory behavior but not doing anything to stop him.

Former Polish model also confessed in her statement that she did file a case in 2018 under a “pseudonym” but she does not want to be a part of the “global settlement.” Sokola is filing the charge under New York’s new Child Victims Act, which allows her to file a complaint even when it was done 15 or 16 years back.

In 2018, Weinstein’s lawyers denied all the allegations.

For the uninitiated, the “Me Too” movement started in 2017 when Ashley Milano revealed that she was sexually assaulted by Weinstein. The movement became a phenomenon after a story published by The New York Times detailed the decades of allegations of sexual harassment against the co-founder of The Weinstein Company. Actresses Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd were among the women who came forward to tell their stories.

As of late, more than 80 women have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct, including dozens of A-list actresses like Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cara Delevingne, Kate Beckinsale, Lena Headey, Lupita Nyong’o, Uma Thurman and Lea Seydoux.

The trial is expected to kick off Jan. 6, 2020.
