Harvey Weinstein Claims He 'Encouraged' His Wife In Decision To Leave Him
Designer Georgina Chapman, the wife of beleaguered film producer Harvey Weinstein, announced she would be leaving him following reports that claimed that he sexually harassed and assaulted more than two dozen women. Weinstein claims he “encouraged” Chapman in her decision to separate.
“Over the last week, there has been a lot of pain for my family that I take responsibility for,” Weinstein told TMZ in a statement Wednesday. “I sat down with my wife Georgina, who I love more than anything, and we discussed what was best for our family. We discussed the possibility of a separation and I encouraged her to do what was in her heart. In the end, she made the decision to separate.”
Weinstein, 65, was with Chapman, 41, for a decade. The couple had two children together: India Pearl, 7, and Dashiell Max Robert, 4.
“I understand, I love her and I love our children and hopefully, when I am better, I will be in their lives again,” he told TMZ. “I support her decision, I am in counseling and perhaps, when I am better, we can rebuild.”
The couple’s separation followed claims by Weinstein last week that his wife “stands 100 percent behind me.” Chapman released a statement that she was separating from her husband Tuesday evening.
“My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband,” she said in a statement to People. “Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time.”
Weinstein has been accused of sexually harassing or assaulting more than two dozen women. Those who have made allegations against him include Ashley Judd, Rose McGowan, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie and Cara Delevingne, among others.
