Disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein has been taken to New York City’s Bellevue Hospital “once again” after receiving bad news in the court. Weinstein, who was sentenced to 23 years in prison for numerous sex crimes, checked into a medical facility after complaining of chest pains.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the former head of The Weinstein Company was taken to the health center after the staff of Rikers Island Prison decided to send him back to one of the oldest public hospitals in the U.S. for “safety” reasons, as per his representative. The representative also noted that Weinstein will be “evaluated” and spending the night at the hospital before getting back to prison.
Weinstein and his rep expressed their gratitude toward the authorities for taking the right step. “We appreciated the care and concern of the Department of Correction officers and staff,” the spokesperson said.
This is the second time Weinstein was rushed to a medical facility in less than a month. A few weeks ago, when a New York jury announced that he was guilty of committing third-degree rape against actress Jessica Mann and first-degree criminal sexual act against his former assistant Miriam Haley, Weinstein managed to evade jail for ten days because he was taken to Bellevue after the trial’s verdict.
At the time, Page Six reported that Weinstein seemed to be faking his ailments a little bit, so that he could get some time away from jail. However, he was transferred to Rikers Island after getting proper treatment.
Weinstein entered the Manhattan Supreme Court for sentencing in a wheelchair, after making frequent court appearances with a walker over the course of his trial. He also reportedly suffered a concussion while being held in Rikers Island Prison over the weekend.
All the six actresses who testified against Weinstien – Mann, Haley, Annebella Sciorra, Dawn Dunning, Lauren Young, and Tarale Wulff – were sitting together in the courtroom. It was the first instance when all the actresses got a chance to sit together since the trial began.
Recently, the unsealed court documents revealed that Weinstein emailed a lot of famous people like Jeff Bezos and Tim Cook, asking for help to save his career.
Apart from the emails, the documents also revealed that Weinstein maintained a “red-flag list ” that included people who could go out and talk about his predatory behavior. People like Ben Affleck, Jason Blum, Rose McGowan, Annabella Sciorra, Zelda Perkins, Lysette Anthony, and Rowena Chiu were part of it.
