HBO GO Coming To PlayStation 4 And PlayStation 3
HBO GO will soon be available on Sony’s PlayStation 3 and next-gen PS4. Though an official release date hasn’t been announced yet, Sony’s senior vice president of business development, Phil Rosenberg, stated that the app would be accessible to users soon.
"With the HBO GO app on your PlayStation system and an HBO subscription via your cable or satellite provider, you'll have unlimited, on-demand access to your favorite HBO shows," Rosenberg stated on Jan. 16 on the PlayStation blog. Viewers will gain access to HBO exclusives like “Game of Thrones” and “Boardwalk Empire,” as well as a variety of sports, movies, documentaries, comedy specials and behind-the-scenes bonus material.
The app will feature more on-demand content than what is currently available on HBO. Subscribers will have access to every episode of series like “The Sopranos” and other HBO classics. You can also watch every available episode from current series like “Girls” from any room where your PS4 or PS3 is hooked up -- even without a cable box.
The PlayStation 4, which launched in North America on Nov. 15, reportedly sold 1 million units within the first 24 hours of its launch, which led to 2.1 million consoles sold internationally as of early December. Sony President and Group CEO Andrew House revealed that 4.2 million PlayStation 4s have been sold worldwide as of Dec. 28, 2013. House made the announcement at the 2014 International CES in early January. The Japanese electronics brand added that the PS4 was its most successful console launch of all time.
The HBO GO app is currently available on the Xbox One, Apple TV, Kindle Fire, Roku and Samsung Smart TVs.
HBO GO, which launched in February 2010, became available on Android phones, the iPad and iPhone in April 2011. By June 2011, the app had more than 3 million users. HBO GO became available for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 in March 2012.
