HBO Max Drops Mindy Kaling's 'Velma' Trailer Featuring Ghost Serial Killer [Watch]
HBO Max has released the official trailer of the highly anticipated animated series, "Velma" featuring a ghost serial killer.
Voiced by Mindy Kaling, the character tries to figure out who is behind the murder as the police announce that it's a ghost because of which cops aren't able to catch them.
Velma is a popular character from the animated mystery series, "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" which was originally released in 1969. It featured various characters including Shaggy and his dog, Scooby-Doo, who used to find out the criminal in every episode.
In the new HBO Max series, however, Velma is the main character, who goes on a journey to find the criminal behind all the murders. The two-minute, 34-second trailer starts with Velma saying that this story will be told in her way.
"My name is Velma Dinkley," she says. "And I've decided to finally share the bone-chilling events that drove me to assemble the greatest team of spooky mystery solvers ever. This is my story, told my way."
Velma can be seen visiting a crime scene, where a woman is brutally murdered. Velma screams after looking at her and says, "She has no brain! I'm not dissing her. She has no brain!"
The trailer further shows Velma being framed for the murder and the story unfolds as she tries to find the real killer while trying to hide from the police.
The series also features popular characters from the original show like Fred Jones and Daphne Blake. While Fred refuses to help Velma because she is not "hot," Daphne chooses not to help Velma saying they are not friends anymore.
An officer can be seen announcing, "For all you wondering why the police have not yet caught the serial killer, it's because it's a ghost." Towards the end of the trailer, Velma eventually gets all her friends together including Fred and Daphne to solve the mystery behind the murder.
"Oh, sorry I'm not a drunk on the verge of losing custody like every other woman solving murders these days," Velma says before adding, "All our classmates are idiots, so let's assume they're high."
When a friend asks Velma about "420," she explains it's a code for "adults who still watch cartoons."
"Velma" is an adult animated comedy series available for streaming online from Thursday.
