Vacuum maker Dyson unveiled a new unique device Wednesday that can double as a pair of headphones and an air purifier called the “Dyson Zone.”

Dyson says that the creation of the Zone was inspired by an increase in issues with air quality and noise pollution. The product is a first of its kind aimed at solving large scale urban issues.

“Air pollution is a global problem – it affects us everywhere we go. In our homes, at school, at work and as we travel, whether on foot, on a bike or by public or private transport,” said Jake Dyson, Chief Engineer in the press release.

“The Dyson Zone purifies the air you breathe on the move. And unlike face masks, it delivers a plume of fresh air without touching your face, using high-performance filters and two miniaturized air pumps. After six years in development, we’re excited to deliver pure air and pure audio, anywhere,” Dyson added.

The Zone purifies the air by pulling it in through each earpiece with a pair of tiny compressors, then the air is filtered and sent through the part that covers your mouth. It can purify up to 99% of particle pollution, the release explained.

There are three different modes for the noise cancellation that include isolation mode, transparency mode and conversation mode.

Users can also link their Zone to a Dyson Link app to get detailed information on the air quality for their surrounding area.

The device is expected to launch this fall. Dyson has not released an estimated price tag.
