Helen Keller Day: 10 Inspiring Quote To Celebrate Famous Blind Author
Helen Keller Day is marked annually on June 27 to celebrate the life and achievements of the famous author, who overcame blindness and deafness.
Keller was born on June 27, 1880, in Tuscumbia, Alabama. At 19 months of age, she suffered from a form of bacterial meningitis, which left her unable to see, hear or speak. The family sought the advice of Alexander Graham Bell, a famous scientist and inventor, who advised them to apply to the Perkins Institute for the Blind in Boston.
In 1887, Keller was taught by Anne Sullivan, a young teacher who had suffered vision impairment herself. Sullivan went on to become a close friend and lifelong companion of Keller.
In 1903, Keller's autobiography, “The Story of my Life” was published.
On June 1, 1968, Keller died in Easton, Connecticut, at age 87.
