‘Hell On Wheels’ Canceled Or Renewed? AMC Orders Season 5 To Be Final Season; Fans React To Announcement
The good news for “Hell On Wheels” fans is AMC renewed the show for Season 5. The bad news is there will be no Season 6, TV Guide reported. “Breaking Bad” and "Mad Men" fans will find the format of the final season familiar. AMC is splitting “Hell On Wheels” Season 5 into two halves. The first seven episodes will air in summer 2015 while the second half will air in summer 2016.
“Hell On Wheels” follows Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount) as he works with the Union Pacific Railroad to build the first transcontinental railroad shortly after the Civil War. As of yet, there are no spoilers for Season 5 because “Hell On Wheels” Season 4 still has two more episodes to air before hiatus. However, Mount has some theories about how the series will end.
"Personally, I think the series is probably going to end one of two ways: He's either going to gain the world and lose his soul, or vice versa,” Mount told Zap2It.
Mount seemed at peace with the decision to make "Hell On Wheels" Season 5 the final season. “The announcement y'all have been waiting for AND helped to create,” he wrote on WhoSay. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you all.”
The announcement may have shocked some since the show did well in a Saturday night time slot. The ratings even went up slightly on the notoriously tough night, so some viewers may have been blindsided by the cancellation. Fans had mixed reactions to the news "Hell On Wheels" would soon be finished. While some were disappointed, others were pleasantly surprised the show has lasted so long.
“Hell On Wheels” Season 4 airs Saturdays at 9 p.m. EST on AMC. Are you sad to see the show go or is it the right time? Sound off in the comments section below!
