Henry Cavill's starring role as Superman in 2013’s “Man of Steel” didn't manage to win over critics. With a rocky start into the superhero game, the talented Cavill’s foray as the iconic caped-crusader may be over. Cavill, on the other hand, doesn’t believe it’s quite over yet.

While interviewing with Men’s Health, Cavill, who has portrayed the superhero in three outings, revealed that he still has not given up on playing Kal-El again.

“The cape is in the closet. It’s still mine,” said Cavill, referring to how closely he holds on to the character. Cavill added that Superman’s story isn’t finished yet and that there is a lot more story to tell.

While many problems have plagued the DCEU movies, Cavill’s performance of Superman was well-praised by fans. "Man of Steel" currently boasts a 75% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, his second outing as the comic book character in 2016's "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" didn't fare as well.

Without knowing the future of the DCEU, Cavill making any future appearances as Superman is, at the moment, up in the air. According to The Hollywood Reporter, though, there was a time in recent history when his status as Superman was seriously questioned. Last September the outlet reported that "the door is now closing on other potential appearances for" Cavill.

Yet, Cavill doesn’t just hope he’ll play Superman again, he gives us hope that it will happen, telling Men's Health: “I’ve not given up the role...There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.”

With the success of “Joker,” along with a rebranded “The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson, Warner Bros. and DC may have just moved on. Then again, James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” and Cathy Yan’s “Birds of Prey” both continuing the DCEU’s “Suicide Squad” story suggests otherwise and that a Cavill Superman could come back.
