Social media queen Kim Kardashian is one of the most famous and highest-earning celebrities in the world today.
Kardashian, 41, is currently worth $1.8 billion, according to Forbes' latest estimate. How did she become this rich? Here is the answer to that and more about her life and career.
The second eldest of the Kardashian-Jenner siblings, she first appeared in the world of entertainment as a singer and stylist in 2004.
But while she found massive success as a reality TV and social media star, most of Kardashian's wealth comes from her stakes in the companies she founded: cosmetics and fragrance brand KKW Beauty and shapewear business Skims.
Kardashian told Variety that her career as a businesswoman started in high school when she was working at a boutique and in her lawyer father's office.
Her net worth surged by $600 million just this January after Skims' valuation hit $3.2 billion, up from $1.6 billion in April 2021, according to Forbes.
Kardashian currently holds an approximate 35% stake in the company, worth about $900 million, the magazine estimated.
The reality star also currently owns a 72% stake in KKW Beauty, which she started in 2017. In 2020, she sold a 20% stake in the cosmetics and fragrance company to beauty giant Coty for $200 million.
Aside from her status as founder of the two companies, Kardashian regularly leverages her massive social media following to promote the brands. She is also involved in the companies' marketing and product design efforts.
In addition to the two businesses, Kardashian has also made millions through endorsements, her own mobile game and a lucrative reality TV career.
Her family's iconic reality show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" ran for 20 seasons from 2007 to 2021. She currently stars in "The Kardashians," which premiered on Hulu in April, alongside her mom Kris Jenner and siblings Kourtney Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner.
Kim is currently the richest among her equally famous family members.
She is followed by her youngest sister Kylie, who owns the beauty company Kylie Cosmetics. The 25-year-old has a net worth of $600 million, according to Forbes.
In February 2021, Kim filed for divorce from Kanye West after nearly seven years of marriage. A Los Angeles judge declared her legally single in March. The exes share four kids, North, Chicago, Saint and Psalm.
Kim last dated comedian Pete Davidson. They broke up in August after nine months of dating.
