Prince Harry is thankful to his mother, Princess Diana, because she seemed to have predicted what the future would hold for him, especially in the financial aspect.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made several shocking revelations in their explosive sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey Sunday. Among them was Prince Harry's statement that the royal family had cut them off financially right after announcing their decision to step back from royal duties.

He also said that it was his inheritance from the late Princess of Wales that gave him and wife Meghan Markle independence and helped them successfully depart the royal family.

"I have what my mum left me and without that, we wouldn’t have been able to do this," Prince Harry told Winfrey during their CBS interview.

"It’s like she saw it coming and she’s been with us through this whole process" he said, adding, "The Netflixes and Spotifys of it all was never part of the plan."

After she died in a car crash in Paris in 1997, Princess Diana left behind £21 million ($29 million at the current exchange rate). But more than £8 million was paid in inheritance tax, which left about £13 million to be split between her two sons, the Press Association reported (via Independent).

Like his brother Prince William's, Prince Harry's £6.5 million (around $8.9 million) inheritance from his mother was invested by royal advisers and grew to around £10 million (about $13 million) by the time he could fully access it at age 30, according to The Telegraph.

Using his inheritance and Markle's earnings from her time as an actress, they were able to put down $5 million for their $14.6 million mansion in Santa Barbara, California, last year and currently have a nearly $10 million mortgage, Forbes reported. They also paid back the $3 million of public money spent on the renovation of their home in the U.K., Frogmore Cottage.

In 2020, Prince Harry and Markle closed a five-year production deal with Netflix that is estimated to be worth $100 million. The contract includes producing documentaries, scripted series, children's programming and more.

However, at the time, there were concerns over the deal within the monarchy, according to a royal expert, who revealed some were worried the Sussexes would exploit their connections with the members of the Firm.

"There are some members of the institution who are concerned that the couple are going to cash in on their royal connections," Katie Nicholl said. "They might be under pressure from Netflix to stray into upper territory but sources close to the couple tell me that they are very adamant that anything and everything that they do is very much going to be in a respectful tone to the Queen, the monarchy, and very much on their missions."

Markle and Prince Harry also signed a deal worth an estimated $25 million with Spotify to host and produce podcasts through their production company, Archewell Audio.

In January, an unnamed insider said Prince Harry and Markle have no regrets about their decision to leave the royal family. The couple reportedly "feel very rewarded from their work."
