Here's What Wendy Williams Is Saying About Her Divorce, Sobriety
Talk show host Wendy Williams spoke out about her divorce and her sobriety Monday, four days after her attorney served her husband Kevin Hunter with legal papers.
On her daily syndicated program "The Wendy Williams Show," she first acknowledged the irony of how someone who discusses the lives of other celebrities has to now discuss her own.
"It’s so crazy 'cause now my business is your business," Williams said with a laugh.
"It's kind of funny. Turnabouts a fair game, I get it."
Williams, 54, had been married to Hunter for nearly 22 years. There had been reports of cheating by Hunter for several years.
Hunter has allegedly been carrying on an affair with a massage therapist, Sharina Hudson, who gave birth to a baby in late March. This was reportedly the catalyst that led to Willams entering a sober house to cope with addiction.
Williams said that she and six friends from the facility had a "really good weekend."
"I'm moving out of the sober house in just a few days," Williams shared. "It’ll be 'Wendy on her own.'"
She stated that she has a new life planned for her and her 19-year-old son.
"It’s one of the best things, honestly, that could’ve ever happened to me. Because when you think about your life, you think about how you’ve been delivering to the world especially here on the show," Williams said from her seat in the "Hot Topics" portion of the show.
She suggested that media personalities such as herself wear a different mask on their programs.
"Everybody has things in their life that they’re embarrassed to share with the world, or they’re frightened to share with the world, or they’re not ready to share with the world and addressing my sobriety, my addiction, head on has really helped me sort out every single compartment of my life," Williams said, which drew a roar from the audience.
Williams, who had taken a hiatus from the show, did not mention Hunter by name, who has served as her manager.
