The Tesla (TSLA) Model S Plaid may be coming to China by March 2022, according to Elon Musk.
The Tesla CEO made the unofficial announcement in a Twitter response to a fan late Sunday night.
When asked by the Twitter commenter when the Model S Plaid would be coming to China, Musk responded, “probably around March.”
In another tweet, Musk said, “Model S Plaid is sickkkk!!!!”
The highly anticipated Model S Plaid is the performance version of Tesla’s Model S, which was introduced in 2012.
The Plaid was recently launched in the U.S. in June. The vehicle has a starting price of $123,740, according to the Tesla website in the U.S.
Tesla raised the price of the EV by $10,000 ahead of the release date, dropping the Plaid Plus version of the vehicle at the time as well.
In China, it is priced at $169,598 (RMB 1,059,990) and is said to be delivered at the end of next year, Benzinga, reported.
Details on the U.S. electric sedan include a 348-mile EPA-estimated range and a top speed of 200 mph. It can hit 60 mph in 1.99 seconds, according to Tesla’s website. Peak power is 1,020 horsepower.
According to the Tesla website, it is the “quickest accelerating car in production today.”
China is the largest electric car market in the world, where Tesla competes with EV makers such as Xpeng, NIO, and Li Auto.
As of Monday premarket hours, shares of Tesla were trading at $1,167.72, up $30.66, or 2.70%.
