  • "Hextech Mayhem" is an upcoming rhythm game in the same style as "Muse Dash"
  • The game will feature a freestyle system that will let players move to the sound of their own beat
  • "Hextech Mayhem" releases on Nov. 16

In the wake of “Arcane’s” success, Riot Games announced a new singleplayer game inspired by a popular rhythm game.

Hextech Mayhem” is an upcoming game set in Piltover, the City of Progress. Players will assume the role of Ziggs, the Dean of Demolitions at Piltover’s Yordle Academy, as he tries to make the biggest bomb the world has ever seen while outrunning Heimerdinger and Piltover’s law enforcement.

Gameplay-wise, the game bears a striking resemblance to “Muse Dash,” a rhythm game developed by Pero Games and published by X.D. Network for Android, PC, Mac OS and the Nintendo Switch. In both games, players must move to the beat while avoiding obstacles and attacking enemies in the process.

However, “Hextech Mayhem” separates itself from “Muse Dash” by introducing the Freestyle Mayhem System which, as the name implies, allows players to perform some freestyle moves outside of the on-screen prompts. This allows some degree of creativity per level and serves as a skill-ceiling of sorts for players who want to completely master the game’s mechanics.

Riot Games has partnered with Choice Provisions to bring a more colorful and slightly whimsical version of Piltover to life in “Hextech Mayhem.” Unlike the gritty atmosphere recently shown in “Arcane,” this upcoming rhythm game will feature a livelier-looking Piltover shown from the perspective of a 2.5D musical platforming game.

What’s most interesting is that “Hextech Mayhem” falls under the Riot Forge category of games, which is Riot Games’ attempt to expand the “League of Legends” universe through spin-off games developed by third-party studios. Riot previously teased a plethora of Riot Forge games, including a fighting game that features “League of Legends” characters.

Apart from this game, the only other Riot Forge title to have been revealed is the “Ruined King,” an RPG set in Bilgewater that follows the story of an unlikely group of champions as they deal with the Harrowing from the Shadow Isles and the return of Viego, the Ruined King himself.

“Hextech Mayhem” is set to be the first of many Riot Forge games to release, as it’s due to launch next week on Nov. 16.
