Hideo Kojima Stars As Dr. Yoshimi Tokui In ‘Control’
Famed video game maker Hideo Kojima is no stranger to the odd and bizarre. His upcoming title is proof of that, and so is Remedy Entertainment’s “Control,” a surreal game that features the “Death Stranding” creator himself.
Kojima stars in “Control” as the voice of a Japanese scientist named Dr. Yoshimi Tokui. Players will find him, or at least hear his voice, in the game when they take on a side mission that can be found in the Central Research station, ComicBook noted.
Tokui speaks in Japanese and is accompanied by a translator voiced by Kojima Productions’ head of marketing, Aki Saito. Both of them will instruct players as they go through a “Guided Imagery Experience.”
In it, Tokui tells players to close their eyes and imagine that they’re on a beach; that there are some seagulls there that are fighting for a bag of potato chips; that there are some lonely trees there that need to be told that they “deserve love;” and that there are some forklifts that destroy the “menace” that “disturbs the love-garden” -- forklifts, with their “hateful tires” and all.
Tokui will tell players that these forklifts killed the seagull who was just fighting for a bag of potato chips he needs to take home to his “pregnant wife,” and that they need to turn the “machines” off because these forklifts must not destroy the beach. Watch the weird mission below:
For real?
Those who find it hard to believe that Kojima is in “Control” will find the game’s credits very helpful. Multiplayer First spotted the “Metal Gear Solid” creator’s name on the credits in the “Special Thanks” section after Michiel can der Leeuw and before Aki Saito.
Players can find Kojima in the game, particularly in the “Dr. Yoshimi Tokui's Guided Imagery Experience” mission by reaching the Old Boys’ Club main story missions. These main story missions will give players access to the Central Research sector.
Once inside the sector, players will need to find the Parapsychology area then proceed to a room attached to it called the Extrasensory Lab. There, players will access the mission after acquiring a collectible near a tank.
