The German Film Awards, colloquially known as the Lolas, is the most highly endowed German cultural awards and is often compared to the Oscars or the César.

The winners of the award are elected by members of the Deutsche Filmakademie whose aim is to provide native filmmakers a platform for discussion and a way to promote the reputation of German cinema through promotions, presentations and discussions.

The 2011 award ceremony was a star-studded event, with some of the biggest names in the German film fraternity making exclusive fashion statements at the red carpet ceremony.
