Hilary Duff Says Not Fond Of 'Lizzie McGuire' Reboot Discussion
Hilary Duff revealed that she still thinks there's a possibility of making a reboot of the popular sitcom, "Lizzie McGuire." However, the actress noted that she doesn't love to talk about it.
"I don’t love to talk about this because the internet seems to explode whenever Lizzie stuff is brought up, but it’s not dead and it’s not alive," Duff told The Cut on Wednesday. "I think there’s always a possibility there."
The 34-year-old actress further shared that even if Lizzie McGuire's character is shown 40-year-old in the reboot, she feels that people won't care about it. "It’s always going to be somewhat interesting to people to see where she ended up," she explained.
Duff announced the reboot of her own sitcom in November 2019 and shot two episodes. The actress went on to reveal that the show is dead in February 2020 as Disney+ denied her request to move the series from their streaming platform to the Hulu platform, where the story doesn’t have to be PG-rated.
During the interview, Duff was asked why an adult version of the character was so important to her.
"I think there are a few levels to that," she explained. "One is that it took a long time for me to love Lizzie again. I would say probably from 20 to 30 I was just like, “I don’t want to be called Lizzie. I don’t want to be associated with that.” It was just frustrating, I felt stuck."
"And I worked for many years to do other things," she added. "And then, I don’t know, that just really went away. I don’t know if it was having kids or just being settled in my own life that made me not care anymore and come around to a place of really loving and appreciating that moment in my life."
"Lizzie McGuire" aired for two seasons from 2001 to 2004. The show also featured Adam Lamberg, Lalaine, Jake Thomas, Hallie Todd, Ashlie Brillault and Robert Carradine.
After the sitcom came to an end, Duff went on to work in various projects, including "Cheaper by the Dozen 2," "The Andy Milonakis Show," "Ghost Whisperer," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "Meet Your Tooth Fairy" and "How I Met Your Father."
