Is ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Real? Bette Midler Responds To Rumored Disney Sequel
“Hocus Pocus” fans have eagerly waited for their favorite witches to reunite on the silver screen, but there’s one major problem: They can’t find a virgin, Bette Midler joked. The cult classic was originally released in 1993, and more than 20 years later people still can’t get enough of the Halloween favorite.
Midler, 69, took to Twitter Monday to address rumors about the sequel. “Breaking news!! SEQUEL DELAYED!!” she tweeted, tagging her former co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. “@Disney having trouble finding a virgin!” She also shared a gif of her and her co-stars gasping. The post was liked and shared more than 2,600 times by her 761,000 followers.
Najimy, 58, retweeted Midler’s message. “Listen to @BetteMidler She's got the inside scoop on virgins folks!” she wrote to her 116,000 followers Tuesday. Then she joked, “Stop spreading bogus rumors @BetteMidler we both know @marcshaiman is a virgin.”
It’s not the first time the “Wind Beneath My Wings” singer has talked about the movie. She once said it was her favorite film, and gushed about the movie during its 20-year anniversary. “Kids, grown-ups, everyone takes part in it. This movie was kind of like the beginning of the wave,” she said in 2013, according to Huffington Post. “We had a great time making it. It was Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker and I and we laughed the whole time."
Midler asked fans to haunt Disney for a sequel when she was asked about it earlier this year. “You have to go to send in your cards to the Walt Disney Company,” she said during a Reddit AMA, according to CinemaBlend. “The ball's in their court ... Inundate the Disney company, because I have canvassed the girls and they are willing to do it, but we have no say in it, so if you want a HOCUS POCUS 2, ask the Walt Disney company ... SISTAHS!”
