‘Hocus Pocus 2’: Sequel Movie Plot, Release Date, Cast, And More Revealed
Almost three decades after the 1993 Disney movie “Hocus Pocus” was released, fans are finally getting the sequel they have been begging for.
On Thursday, Disney+ announced original cast members Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy will reprise their roles in the sequel, “Hocus Pocus 2.”
The women played the Sanderson sisters in the cult classic about three witches wreaking havoc in Salem as they adjust to modern times after being resurrected by a teenage boy.
The plot of the upcoming sequel will focus on “three young women who accidentally bring the Sanderson sisters back to modern-day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world.”
In 2019, Disney teased a “Hocus Pocus” sequel, but none of the three stars were confirmed to return.
Although the three actresses will officially reprising their roles, the film’s original director Adam Shankman will not be involved due to schedule conflicts. Shankman will be busy directing the upcoming “Enchanted” sequel, “Disenchanted.”
Anne Fletcher, who directed films like “Dumplin’” and “Step Up,” will take over for Shankman. Following the big news, Fletcher expressed her excitement over the upcoming sequel.
“Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film,” she said.
“I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special. This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Production for the movie is scheduled to begin in the fall. “Hocus Pocus 2” is expected to be released in 2022 on Disney+.
