Hollis Jane: The Dancing Bear Feels ‘Less Than Human’ Because Of Miley Cyrus’ VMA Performance

Behind one of the dancing bears at the jaw-dropping MTV Video Music Awards show performance of Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke was a young woman who will always remember that day as something that made her feel “less than human.” According to Radar Online, Hollis Jane, who was one of the bears in the performance captured in this video on YouTube, hoped that her part in the now-infamous VMAs stunt would be a great experience. However, she has said her part in it left her feeling “degraded.”

The racy performance of Cyrus and Thicke raised eyebrows around the world and now Jane gives a different perspective on the matter. On her blog, Jane wrote: “I had never been in a performance where I was purely meant to be gawked or laughed at. I will never forget that performance because it is what forced me to draw my personal line in the sand.”

Jane, who identifies herself as a little person, went on to say: “I was being stared at and laughed at for all the wrong reasons. I was being looked at as a prop ... as something less than human.” According to E Online, the 24-year-old had an opportunity to join Cyrus on tour after the performance, but turned the job offer down.

Jane also mentioned in her blog post, “For the first time I felt truly ashamed of being a little person.” During the performance, Cyrus had a party of dancing bears with her to up the ante during the show. Jane, who was the woman under one of the bears, said, “We can all agree that right now all Miley Cyrus wants to do is make society’s jaw drop.”

Whether Cyrus’ intentions are truly known is up in the air. However, after the VMAs performance, she was the center of controversy involving incidents beyond the performance itself. Cyrus was recently under attack for the racy, barely there, photo shoot she did with fashion photographer Terry Richardson, among other things.

Adding to the controversy swirling around the pop star was her split from longtime fiance Liam Hemsworth. Cyrus continued the media frenzy when she and Sinead O’Connor were involved in a very public feud via social media. So, amid all the rumors, feuds, breakups and makeups, it’s no surprise that people close to Cyrus, like Hollis Jane, are now speaking out about their versions of the truth.
