New evidence in the murder of Tennessee nursing student Holly Bobo, 20, suggested she was shot in the head after an indentation was found in her skull. Prosecutors revealed the new information in the court Wednesday as the judge denied requests to delay the trial for the first suspect in the case Zach Adams.

Earlier last month, authorities said a gun discovered during the Memorial Day weekend was linked to Bobo's death and was a "crucial piece of evidence." Prosecutors said Wednesday they will bring more than 200 witnesses to testify in the trial along with an expert who would speak on the gun's link to the purported gunshot wound in Holly Bobo's skull.

Zach Adams' trial is set to begin Sept. 11. His lawyers filed a motion to delay it until January 2018. However, Judge C. Creed McGinley on Wednesday declined the request to further delay the date. The first trial was earlier scheduled for July but was delayed for further investigation after a gun was found.

Jennifer Thompson, Adams' attorney, told the judge she needed more time to review the evidence and the investigators were taking a lot of time than expected. Thompson told the judge that her defense case would take at least a week, suggesting that the trial could last for more than two weeks.

“We’ve been ready for six years,” the family's Pastor Don Franks said, according to ABC's WBBJ7 network. “I think it’s very important, and the judge made a good point,” he said about the jury selection that is set for Sept. 9. “We don’t want anything to interfere with a fair trial and a just trial.”

Franks said the family was glad that the motion to delay the trial was denied by the judge.

“It’s a relief because we are a step closer,” he added. “I think the family, community, and everyone has had ample time, and we think it’s very important to proceed on.”

Bobo went missing in April 2011 near her West Tennessee home and was later discovered dead near Adams’ home. While prosecutors blame Adams for Bobo's death and are looking for a death penalty for the suspect, his attorney said there was no DNA evidence linking his client to young nurse's death.

“They would have found DNA in that house,” Thompson told WMC-TV in May. “They would have found hair in that house. They would have found a fingernail. They would have found something that placed Holly in that house. There’s no chemical cleanup in that house. There’s nothing that ever indicated Holly has been in that house.”

Three suspects have been arrested and charged in the case, including Adams' brother John Dylan Adams, and Jason Autry. All three men face charges linked to "premeditated murder and murder in the perpetration of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape."
