Hollywood announces Razzie nominees
The Last Airbender and Sex and the City 2 top list of duds in 2010
Hollywood gives awards for everything, even for being lousy at your job. Today the nominees for the 31st annual Golden Raspberry Awards -- or Razzies -- which honors the year’s worst actors, directors and films, were announced.
Topping off the year’s worst movies was Maverick Films’ “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”, in which actress Kristen Stewart plays a love-starved teen who must choose between a vampire and a werewolf as a new boyfriend (and you thought your dating life was bad). The film was nominated despite the fact that it somehow grossed over $300 million at the box office.
The other nominee for worst picture was director M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender,” a story of a boy (Noah Ringer) who has the power to control all four elements of nature (and who would have come in very handy during, say, Hurricane Katrina). Shyamalan was also nominated for worst director and worst screenplay for the film.
Stewart was nominated for worst actress along with “Friends” icon Jennifer Aniston for her role in “The Bounty Hunter” and Sarah Jessica Parker for her role in the film dreaded by boyfriends and husbands everywhere, “Sex and the City 2.”
Co-stars Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis also were nominated for “Sex 2,” along with Megan Fox for Jonah Hex and Miley Cyrus for “The Last Song.”
Stewart’s co-stars from Twilight, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, also were nominated for worst actor, along with comedic actor Jack Black for butchering Jonathan Swift’s classic, “Gulliver’s Travels”, and Ashton Kutcher for being, well, Ashton Kutcher (actually, he was nominated for Killers).
Razzie winners are chosen by the group's roughly 600 voters and will be announced Feb 26, the night before the Oscars.
