‘Homeland’ Season 5 Spoilers: 5 Questions We Want Answered In Oct. 4 Premiere
When “Homeland” Season 4 wrapped last year Showtime viewers were left with more questions than answers. And unfortunately for fans of the Claire Danes drama, it appears the premiere will only deliver more mystery.
When Season 5 of the Alex Gansa-created series picks up on Oct. 4, viewers will catch up with Carrie Mathison (Danes) over two years later. This time, she will be working in Berlin as the head of security for a German philanthropist following her unsuccessful tenure as the CIA’s Islamabad station chief. Ahead of the season premiere, let’s take a look at some of the questions we want answered in Season 5, episode 1.
1. Where is Quinn? When Season 4 concluded viewers and Carrie were left in the dark as to where Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) ran off to. Viewers will remember that Quinn returned to the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) for a secret overseas mission after Carrie refused to leave the CIA and begin a life with him. Dal Adar (F. Murray Abraham) played coy, only revealing to Carrie that he was stationed in Syria and/or Iraq. While Quinn is confirmed to be returning for the series’ fifth installment, his wherabouts and his plans are still a mystery.
2. What’s up with Saul? Saul (Mandy Patinkin), wanting to earn a spot back in the CIA, made a major move by appearing to join forces with Dar, a two-timing CIA agent, in the finale. In the episode Carrie rushed over to Dar’s home to get answers about Quinn only to see her longtime mentor sitting in the enemies’ backyard. Did Saul go over to the bad side or is he merely playing the game? It is worth noting he is seen talking to Carrie in the trailer, calling her actions “naive and stupid." According to Season 5 scoop, Saul will be back in the intelligence game in the new episodes.
3. What happened to Haqqani? Much to the dismay of viewers terrorist Haissam Haqqani (Numan Acar) got away scot-free in Season 4. Was Carrie able to catch the terrorist off-screen or is he still a free man?
4. Who is Carrie’s new boyfriend? It seem strange for Carrie to turn down Quinn only to agree to a serious romance with a new man, Jonas Happich (Alexander Fehling), a legal counselor for the Düring Foundation. Granted, Season 5 does pick up years later so Carrie could have had a change or heart, but is she really over Quinn? Is Jonas the new Brody (Damian Lewis) or is he just another means to an end for Carrie?
5. Has Carrie finally met her match? Carrie is seen being kidnapped with two men placing a black bag over her head in the new season trailer. Later clips show her running from an explosion and being strangled by an unknown attacker. With Carrie’s relationship with the CIA up in the air, will her venture to Berlin be her final act of service? Fans will have to stay tuned to find out.
