Homeowner Faces Daily Fines For Hanging ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ Banner Outside His Home
KEY POINTS
- Seagrove Beach homeowner Marvin Peavy says he was just exercising free speech
- A compliance magistrate said Peavy’s “Trump Won” banner violated the county’s land development code in the area
- “Let’s Go Brandon” has become a replacement phrase for swear words directed at President Joe Biden
A Florida homeowner is faced with daily fines of $50 for displaying massive Trump banners on his house that read “Trump Won” and “Let’s Go Brandon,” the latter statement being a right-wing indirect insult to President Joe Biden.
Walton County Code Enforcement is fining Seagrove Beach homeowner Marvin Peavy $50 for each day he displays his three-story-tall “Trump Won” banner, NBC affiliate WFLA-TV reported.
Speaking with the outlet, Peavy said, “I’m here on the beach, and I got a lot of traffic, and people needed to see what I believe in. That’s free speech, and I wanted everyone to know that I’m a Republican and I’m supporting Donald Trump,” he said.
Peavy is due for another hearing on Nov. 17 and if his banners are found to be violating the code again, his fines will accrue for every day the banners are up and fines will be due by then.

Peavy has reiterated that he will not take the banners down. He has since received support from the community. Chairman of the Walton County Republican Executive Committee Bill Fletcher said Peavy was “the epitome of somebody who will stand up for his First Amendment right.”
A compliance magistrate decided in a code enforcement hearing last month that Peavy’s “Trump Won” banner was a violation of Walton County’s land development code along 30A, which is an exclusive South Walton community.
While Peavy appears to have only been fined for his “Trump Won” banner, the “Let’s Go Brandon” banner's potential violation of Walton County land codes remains a question and may be addressed in this month's hearing. The phrase in question has become a stand-in for swear words directed at Biden, Associated Press reported.

The said statement first came into the limelight after an NBC reporter interviewing NASCAR driver Brandon Brown mistook crowd chants at the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama as “Let’s Go Brandon” when they were actually saying “F--- Joe Biden.”
Since then, other politicians have joined the use of the phrase. “Let’s Go, Brandon!” was the statement of Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., at the end of his Oct. 21 speech wherein he raised a fist pump.
Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S.C. donned a face mask with the phrase printed on it at the Capitol last week, while Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was spotted posing with a “Let’s Go Brandon” sign during the World Series.
