'House of Gucci' Dialogue Coach Says Lady Gaga’s Accent Is 'Not Exactly' Italian
Lady Gaga had recently shared details of “perfecting” her Italian accent in the highly anticipated movie “House of Gucci,” but the on-set dialect coach doesn't completely agree with it.
"I feel bad saying this, but her accent is not exactly an Italian accent, it sounds more Russian," Italian actress and dialogue coach Francesca De Martini told The Daily Beast on Sunday regarding Gaga's accent in the movie, reported New York Post.
In Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci,” Gaga is playing the role of Italian socialite Patrizia Reggiani, who was convicted of orchestrating the assassination of her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci. The movie also stars Jared Leto and Al Pacino.
De Martini, 56, was originally called to audition for the movie but instead of getting the role, she was asked to coach actress Salma Hayek, who is playing Giuseppina "Pina" Auriemma's character in the movie.
The actress explained her reaction when she was called a dialogue coach. She noted that she was "surprised" to learn that there wasn't a dialogue coach on the set.
"I was surprised — House of Gucci was a really, really big production for [the country]," De Martini told the outlet. "I think I never saw a movie [this big] here, maybe Mission: Impossible and Bond, they had this huge crew. So, I was really surprised to be called for this, and I was surprised there wasn’t a dialogue coach on set."
However, the actress-turned-dialogue coach explained how Hayek immediately fixed her accent.
"What happened was this: Salma shot for one day and then asked for a dialogue coach," De Martini explained. "I think she heard the accent wasn’t right and she was worried — she wanted to do well."
De Martini noted that Gaga sounded a bit off when Hayek was doing a scene with her. She also noted that there are many different accents in the trailer, according to the report.
"I was noticing when I was on set, because I had earphones working with Salma and hearing what she was saying so I could help her to get it right, so I could hear Lady Gaga as well," she added. "When you see the trailer, there are so many different accents."
The official handle of the "House of Gucci" movie dropped a new teaser on Monday featuring a conversation between Gaga and Adam Driver.
"House of Gucci" is slated to release in theaters on Nov. 24.
