'House Of Gucci': Lady Gaga Reveals It Took Her 9 Months To Master Italian Accent
Singer and actress Lady Gaga, who plays Patrizia Reggiani in the highly anticipated movie "House of Gucci," revealed that it took her nine months to master the Italian accent.
The 35-year-old actress noted that it was method acting that helped her to get into the skin of Reggiani's character.
"It is three years since I started working on it," Gaga told British Vogue Magazine on Tuesday. "And I will be fully honest and transparent: I lived as [Reggiani] for a year and a half. I spoke with an accent for nine months of that. Off-camera, I never broke. I stayed with her."
Gaga also explained that it was "nearly impossible" for her to speak with an Italian accent, considering the fact she is a "blonde." However, the singer immediately took the matter into her own hands and dyed her hair.
She went on to explain how she started photography as an exercise to connect with her character.
"I started to take photographs as well," she told the outlet. "I have no evidence that Patrizia was a photographer, but I thought as an exercise, and finding her interests in life, that I would become a photographer, so I took my point-and-shoot camera everywhere that I went."
Gaga's character, which is based on a true story, was in love with beautiful things. Hence, the singer used to delete anything that wasn't beautiful.
The "Chromatica" star recalled an incident that happened on the set with fellow actress Salma Hayak, who plays Giuseppina "Pina" Auriemma in the upcoming movie.
"We were in between takes and Salma was like, 'Oh, this f--king method actor is over here,'" she said before adding, "She was making fun of me while I was sitting there doing it."
Even after Hayak made fun of her, Gaga noted that she never broke the character at the time but later they both laughed together.
"When the scene was over, I flipped at her and I said, 'You're ridiculous!' and I started laughing and I kissed her," she added. "It was a wonderful set, but I'm very serious when I work."
"House of Gucci" is based on the true story of Italian socialite Reggiani, who was convicted of ordering her ex-husband's assassination. It also stars Jared Leto, Hayek, Camille Cottin, Jeremy Irons, Jeremy Iron, Reeve Carney and Mehdi Nebbou.
The movie is directed by Ridley Scott and slated to release on Nov. 24 in theaters.
