Houston Rockets May Keep Serbian Giant From Christian Wood Trade
KEY POINTS
- Boban Marjanovic may stick around for the Houston Rockets
- Marjanovic may be tasked to guide young cagers on the roster
- The Rockets need to beef up the frontline following the trade of Christian Wood
The Houston Rockets have been busy trying to retool their roster to get things in order.
They moved a key piece in Christian Wood, someone who will now render his services to the Dallas Mavericks.
The Rockets got three players from that trade, namely Boban Marjanovic, Trey Burke, Sterling Brown and Marquese Chriss.
Aside from these cagers, Houston also acquired the rights to the 26th overall pick of the 2022 NBA Draft.
Of the haul that the Rockets got, there is no telling who will stay or go. However, it appears that the player who may most likely be staying on the Rockets’ roster is Marjanovic, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reported.
The reason believed to be behind this is the 7-foot-3 frame of the Serbian cager.
But at 33 years old and for someone who has hardly gotten playing time, Marjanovic could be kept but only for a limited time.
With the Rockets turning to Alperen Sengun, Marjanovic could be retained to help the 19-year-old Turkish player and the other players on the roster in their development phase.
In his career, the Serbian giant owns averages of 5.9 points and 3.8 rebounds.
Last season with the Mavericks, he saw action for only 33 games and normed 4.7 points and 3.9 rebounds.
Clearly, the only assets that Marjanovic has to show right now are his hulking presence and his veteran experience.
Unless he responds well to Rockets coach Stephen Silas, these things are likely the only ones that would help keep him on the Rockets’ roster.
Beyond Sengun and Marjanovic, it will be interesting what new pieces Silas will be placing.
Although they have their 2022 NBA Draft selection to look forward to, there are players like Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. in tow.
The Rocket may focus on the rookies coming in via the draft set for June 23. Aside from that, there are free agents to choose from.
But given their situation, it is likely that Silas will go after players who are fairly priced rather than taking in a veteran star on a rental.
