How Did 'Arrow' End? Series Finale Recap
The “Arrow” series finale aired last night, so how did the CW’s first Arrowverse show end? Read on to find out:
Deaths Reversed: As Oliver (Stephen Amell) died while creating Earth-Prime, he brought back some of his loved ones. Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson) and Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell) never died in this world. However, Earth-1 Laurel and Robert Queen are still dead. Moira reasons that their deaths had to stay the same in order for Oliver to stay on his path to save the world, and Quentin tells Earth-2 Laurel (Katie Cassidy) that there’s nothing that needs to be changed about her.
Thea and Roy Reunite: These two have had some issues, but they’re ready to makeup. In fact, Roy (Colton Haynes) doesn’t just offer an apology to Thea (Willa Holland). He even proposes. After taking a little while to think about it, Thea decides she’ll marry her longtime love.
Felicity Returns: The biggest return in the “Arrow” series finale was that of Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards). Oliver’s wife has been grieving his death for a month. She leaves baby Mia at home, however, after William (Jack Moore) is kidnapped. She goes into full Oracle mode, tracking down all the places he could be.
Mia Saves William: Sara (Caity Lotz) brings Mia (Katherine McNamara) back from the future so she can go to Oliver’s funeral. Mia saves her big brother after he is kidnapped and shows him how to handle a bow.
First Meetings: Emiko (Sea Shimooka) meets Thea for the first time, and Moira says Emiko is welcome anytime. Tommy (Colin Donnell) meets this version of Laurel (Katie Cassidy) for the first time and finds it oddly comforting.
Mia actually avoids her mom because she doesn’t want to give away the future, and Felicity isn’t sure she wants to speed through Mia’s growing up process. However, they share a nice heartfelt moment at Oliver’s funeral. Felicity is clearly proud of who her daughter becomes.
Talia and Nyssa Return: Katrina Law dodged International Business Times’ question about a possible finale return, and that’s because her character Nyssa makes a surprise appearance at Oliver’s funeral. She tells off her sister and reveals she wants to there for Sara, who she calls her “beloved.”
The Funeral: The Flash (Grant Gustin) and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) show up to give their condolences. Barry says that he was with Oliver in his last moments and thinks he could've done more. Felicity, however, assures Barry that she knows his heart. He did everything he could.
After realizing she can't give a speech, Felicity tells Diggle (David Ramsey) to give the eulogy. After much of the episode's flashbacks focused on Dig and Oliver building their trust and friendship, this feels perfect. "Oliver may be gone, but his mission endures, and that mission lives on, Oliver lives on, in the people he inspired," Dig says.
Team Arrow’s Future Plans: Diggle (David Ramsey) says Lila (Sea Shimooka) took a job in Metropolis, so they’re moving. Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) says she’s leaving too since there are plenty of cities that still need to be saved (fans will remember that “Green Arrow and the Canaries” states that Dinah woke up in 2040 the day after the funeral). Rene (Rick Gonzalez) starts his campaign for mayor, a position he’ll take over from Quentin.
Diggle’s Calling: In the last moments of the “Arrow” series finale, Diggle has sent his kids and Lilah off to Metropolis in the car. He stays behind to drive the moving van. That’s when he sees something fall out of the sky, almost like a small asteroid. There’s a small box, and when Dig opens it, a green light shines. Longtime fans will take this as a hint that Diggle is finally becoming the Green Lantern.
The Afterlife: “Arrow” ends with the follow-up to last year’s season finale cliffhanger. In 2040, Felicity tells the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) that she’s ready to see her husband. The powerful being takes her to the afterlife, which turns out to be Moira’s Queen Consolidated office. She has her hair in a ponytail and she looks just like she did when she and Oliver first met. Felicity greets Oliver with a big kiss and he reveals that he saw her before they met. Luckily, they have the rest of eternity to talk about it.
