Princess Diana was no longer an official member of the royal family after she divorced Prince Charles.

On the online forum site Quora, royal fans discussed how the Princess of Wales supported herself after she became estranged from the future king and the royal family.

Arlene B. Hede, who has read a lot of books about the royal family, said that Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom didn’t really have to support herself. After all, she got £26 million, as part of her divorce settlement.

“And she had her own money from her own inheritance from her parents. I think this is one reason why she was dating Dodi Al Fayed – his wealth – he could keep her in the lifestyle to which she had become accustomed to as the Princess of Wales,” she said.

Princess Diana and Prince Charles were only legally married for 15 years. But 11 years into their union, the royal couple announced their decision to go their separate ways. However, it was only in 1996 that their divorce was finalized.

After her divorce, Princess Diana didn’t have to move out of Kensington Palace, In fact, her divorce settlement included a spacious three-level apartment in the palace. She also had access to the royal family’s private jets when she needed to travel with her sons.

And when it came to the money that she received Princess Diana inherited over $22.5 million. An extra $600,000 was given to her to pay for her private office.

After the divorce, Princess Diana also lost her royal title as HRH. Without her titled as Her Royal Highness, Princess Diana of Wales, the mom of two was forced to curtsy to the other royals whenever she’s around them.

But Princess Diana didn’t spend that much time with Prince Charles’ side of the family after they divorced. She simply met up with her sons and bonded with them without the presence of the Prince of Wales.
