How Did Toby Sheldon Die? Justin Bieber Look-Alike Tobias Strebel Found Dead
Sad news: Toby Sheldon, who spent more than $100,000 to look like Canadian pop star Justin Bieber, was found dead Friday, TMZ reported Wednesday. He was 35.
Sheldon, who also went by the name Tobias Strebel, was discovered in a Motel 6 in the San Fernando Valley days after he was reported missing. He was last seen alive in West Hollywood, California, on Aug. 18, Variety wrote.
It’s unknown how he died, but authorities said they found drugs in the hotel room.
The disappearance may have been caused by a breakup, the Los Angeles Police Department said when Sheldon first went missing. Little information about his death, however, is known at this time.
Sheldon garnered fame for appearing on reality television shows like the E! network’s “Botched” and TLC’s “My Strange Addiction.” Sheldon said he thought that Bieber had the perfect look and was obviously willing to spend thousands of dollars to look like the “Baby” singer.
“What brought me to Bieber was the whole package: the full cheeks, the full temples, the bright open eyes, the full luscious lips and spacial framing,” he said on “Botched” in 2014. “[He’s] just extraordinarily beautiful.”
Neither Dr. Paul Nassif nor Dr. Terry Dubrow, the doctors who examined Sheldon on “Botched,” issued a statement on his untimely death. Sheldon’s idol, Bieber, also remained quiet. Further, not only did the E! network not comment on Sheldon’s death, but they did not even write a story about his unexpected passing.
Reality television wasn’t Sheldon’s only gig. He was also an aspiring singer. “The gift of writing music is not something you can learn," he said on "Botched." "You have to have that inner creativity, you have to have something to say, you have to be lyrically gifted [and] you have to know what’s catchy. It’s just something I’ve been able to master.”
A Twitter post from April 2014 shows him in the recording studio.
