How Does ‘Justice League’ Writer Joss Whedon Feel About The Movie’s Villain?
Joss Whedon is pretty active on Twitter, but he hasn’t mentioned his new movie “Justice League” yet. However, he has liked a tweet that criticizes the villain.
The “Buffy” creator is credited as a writer on the new DC Comics film. However, he didn’t step in until much of the film was finished. He took over directing after Zack Snyder stepped down to mourn his daughter’s suicide. Whedon’s work was mainly in the reshoots and editing (which is why he did not receive a directing credit). That means that he didn’t pick Steppenwolf as the film’s villain, and he might not be happy with the choice.
On Twitter, Whedon liked two tweets about comic book movie villains. “#JusticeLeague’s Steppenwolf is the worst comic book movie villain of all time and not even Malekith the Accursed comes close,” Vanity Fair writer Joanna Robinson tweeted.
She also posted photos of the best villains. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) from “The Avengers,” which Whedon also directed, was included.
Obviously, a liked tweet isn’t necessarily a sign of agreement, but the liked tweet is the only recent mention of “Justice League” on his Twitter account right now. It isn’t as though he isn’t active. He even took time to call Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok” a “masterpiece,” but hasn’t said anything about the superhero movie that he has coming out.
DC fans find Whedon’s Twitter practices a bit disrespectful, to say the least.
Whedon has not been doing press for “Justice League,” which is not receiving good reviews, nor was he pictured at the premiere. Meanwhile, the cast has been touting the film as mostly Zack Snyder’s vision with a little help from Whedon. The Flash actor Ezra Miller explained that Whedon was “fulfilling Zack’s vision.”
“I definitely think it’s a realization of a cohesive vision that comes mainly from Zack and comes from the cumulative process of the building of the DCEU,” Miller told Fox 5 DC. “And I definitely, I feel something that reflects majorly what Zack showed me in early comic frames in a lot of the movie. What’s funny is that I think that Zack was doing a much lighter, more comedic, almost more Whedony thing, and then Joss stepped on and was fulfilling Zack’s vision. It’s an incredible instance of two artists in collaboration and honoring each other’s work.”
Whedon will get more creative control when he helms “Batgirl.” As previously reported, the “Firefly” creator will write and direct the Barbara Gordon movie. However, no release date has been set.
“Justice League” hits theaters Friday.
