Edward VIII reportedly continued living like a royal after he was exiled to France with Wallis Simpson.

The former king decided to abdicate from the throne so that he could be with the American divorcee. One of the repercussions of his decision was that he and his wife had to depart England and they lived in France.

In the Channel 5 documentary “Inside Fortnum and Mason: The Queen’s Grocer,” it was revealed that Edward VIII flew in fresh fish from Northumberland to have breakfast every single morning. The fish was supplied by Fortnum and Mason. Food writer and historian Angela Clutton fried a kipper and prepared it exactly how the royal liked.

“See this is just like the kippers Edward would have had every day, and he wasn’t getting them from any local fishmonger. Fortnum and Mason were flying them over every single day for him to have… They were Craster kippers from Northumberland – very heavily smoked, very very okay,” Clutton said.

The food writer and historian said that Edward VIII must have loved the fish because that’s all he had while waiting to wed Wallis. Clutton also said that Edward VIII’s breakfast was always fit for a King.

Edward VIII and Wallis tied the knot on June 3, 1937, at Chateau de Cande near Tours.

In related news, Edward VIII previously made headlines after royal fans speculated on whether or not the royal just used Simpson as an excuse to abdicate.

On the online forum site Quora, some royal fans said that Edward VIII might not have been sure about his role as King that’s why he opted to shy away from the throne. And since he met a beautiful woman in Simpson, he decided to use their relationship as his main reason for abdicating.

However, the majority of the royal fans that responded to the question said that Edward VIII wed Simpson because he really loved her.
