How To Get Free Krispy Kreme Doughnuts; Why Critics Slammed Sweet Deal
Krispy Kreme is rewarding customers for getting their COVID-19 vaccine: a free glazed doughnut. The company will offer the deal to anyone who has a vaccine card (and occasionally those who don’t).
Krispy Kreme will give one free glazed donut per customer per day. The buyer just needs to show their official vaccination record card. Those taking two-dose vaccines only need to have their first dose completed.
The doughnut shop will only allow one per vaccination card, so if bringing a car full of vaccinated family members, make sure to show cards for each member of the family.
Since the company is giving out one free Krispy Kreme per customer per day, anyone can go back for more on a different day. The promotion lasts until Dec. 31, 2021, so someone could get a free donut a day for the rest of the year if they want.
What about all the customers who have decided not to get a vaccine? They’ll be able to receive some goodies too—but for a much more limited time.
“If you have made the personal decision to not receive the COVID vaccine, please visit us on Mondays, 3/29/21 – 5/24/21, to receive a free Original Glazed doughnut and a medium brewed coffee to get your week off to a good start,” the website says.
The offer is only available for in-shop or drive-thru purchases, not online ordering or delivery.
Many on Twitter reacted with delight—and criticism. While it seems like a great way to encourage people to get the COVID-19 vaccine, many viewed it as promoting obesity. Others were quick to point out that customers don’t have to get a free donut every single day, and an occasional treat won't make anyone obese.
To hell with the science, Krispy Kreme offering free donuts is probably the only thing that's going to get America vaccinated TBH

Krispy Kreme is offering a free donut every day of 2021 to anyone who has been fully vaccinated.

But that sounds like you're trading one problem for another. 😬
I think @krispykreme may have just solved the problem of vaccine hesitancy. https://t.co/ZSo2KnGkGK

obesity and diabetes are the perfect way to celebrate getting a vaccine! https://t.co/no6mRFrHTw

A donut isn’t going to tip the scales (pun intended) on the obesity problem we have. If it at all helps the vaccine get in arms, so be it.

Right! Obesity is the largest comorbidity group who suffer & die from COVID-19 but lets offer a free doughnut after you get the vaccine. In what world does this make ANY sense? Absolutely unreal.

Lose weight, exercise, eat healthy is what we need to be preaching. Ugh.
It's a single donut

Many companies are offering their own employees incentives to get vaccinated in the form of gift cards, stipends, free Lyft rides and paid time off. Target, Instacart and Kroger are among the major retailers offering perks. Krispy Kreme is among the first to offer a reward to vaccinated customers.
