Love bites may be signs of love, but admit it: they can be quite embarrassing at times. Well, unless of course, you want to wear it like a badge of honor.

Hickeys are bruises that form on the skin after small skin vessels are injured because of suction, or biting. When these vessels break, the blood leaks out and is stored under the skin, causing a black or blue discoloration. The sizes vary, however, depending on the level of trauma suffered by the capillaries.

People adopt various methods to fade out the marks but some home remedies work just as effectively as any high-end treatment.

Below are five such home remedies that will help you get rid of hickeys fast:

Use a cold spoon: Press a chilled spoon against the bruises soon after you spot them. This process slows down the blood circulation at the site of the broken capillaries, reducing the size of the bruises.

Apply aloe vera pulp: The gelly substance inside the aloe vera leaf will help you get rid of skin swelling and pain and will significantly minimize the bruising.

Use pineapple pulp: Pineapples have a high concentration of an enzyme called bromelain, which effectively eases inflammation and swelling. Apply thick pineapple pulp at the site of the bruising and see it slowly die down.

Banana peel: Of all the benefits bananas have, helping remove hickeys is perhaps the wildest one. Banana peel contains a great number of vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants that soothe the skin and allow it to get rid of irritation or marks.

Use toothpaste: Take a little amount of toothpaste and rub it on the site for a few minutes. Don't worry about the tingling sensation, it will go in a minute and will cool down the skin. Make sure to rub the toothpaste with a warm washcloth for added comfort.
