How To Get Tickets To Obama's Farewell Address: President Barack Obama To Deliver Final Public Speech In Chicago On Jan. 10
President Barack Obama is scheduled to deliver his farewell address in his home city of Chicago on Jan. 10, just days before he leaves office.
In a message emailed to reporters Monday, Obama wrote: “On Tuesday, January 10, I’ll go home to Chicago to say my grateful farewell to you, even if you can’t be there in person.”
“I’m just beginning to write my remarks. But I’m thinking about them as a chance to say thank you for this amazing journey, to celebrate the ways you’ve changed this country for the better these past eight years, and to offer some thoughts on where we all go from here,” the president wrote in his message.
Obama will deliver the remarks at McCormick Place in Chicago, at an event where only individuals with tickets will be admitted. According to the White House website, tickets will be given out at McCormick Place on Saturday, Jan. 7. While the tickets are free, they are limited to one ticket per person and will be given out on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Those attending have been advised to reach the venue well in time — the doors will open at 5 p.m. — as people arriving late may not be permitted to enter. The White House also mentions: “All attendees will go through airport-like security and should bring as few personal items as possible. No bags, sharp objects, umbrellas, liquids or signs will be allowed in the venue. Small cameras are permitted.”
Those who are unable to attend the event can watch the president’s address at wh.gov/Farewell or on www.Facebook.com/WhiteHouse.
“Since 2009, we’ve faced our fair share of challenges, and come through them stronger. That’s because we have never let go of a belief that has guided us ever since our founding — our conviction that, together, we can change this country for the better,” Obama said in his message.
“So I hope you’ll join me one last time.”
