How To Group Video Chat On Kik Messenger: Update Comes To iOS, Android
Kik, the popular chat app for iOS and Android devices, has added group video chat to its service.
Kik’s new group video chat brings new features including one-on-one and group chats of up to six people while allowing users to send emojis, messages, photos and GIFs.
“Video chat was the number-one feature you requested, and today, we’re really excited to launch it on Kik,” the company said in a blog post.
Kik Messenger has 300 million users and claims that 40 percent of U.S. teenagers use the app. As seen in the picture GIF, calls are the size of a profile icon. This makes it easier for the text conversation to continue during the group video chat, especially now with the options of sharing content like photos or stickers during the video chat.

To get started, simply tap the video chat icon in the upper right-hand corner to turn on video. It’s pretty easy to one-on-one or in a group (up to six people). And you can also share content, including photos, stickers and GIFs in real-time, while video chatting with friends and family members.
“It’s not like calling, we wanted to make it a seamless upgrade from chat,” Kik CEO and founder Ted Livingstone Told TechCrunch. “So the chat becomes a shared whitespace.”
Kik has been focusing on chat bots this year - which it introduced its bot store in April and claims more than 20,000 bots have been created. Livingston tells TechCrunch the startup will “spend a lot of time working on the core messaging experience.”
