“How I Met Your Mother” fans have met Robin’s father in the past, but the season nine wedding weekend will also be introducing her mother … or as Carter Bays teased, her mother(s)!

The ninth season is being described as “the longest wedding weekend ever,” and it’s quickly approaching. Earlier this month we revealed that a couple of episode titles for the final season leaked – and one of them seems to be hinting towards Robin’s family. According to Spoiler TV, episode nine is called “Mom and Dad.” While no synopsis for the episode has been released, the latest scoop from series co-creator Carter Bays makes it sound as if Robin will have her hands full leading up to the rehearsal dinner in episode 11 (cleverly titled “Rehearsal Dinner”).

Bays dished to TVGuide.com that viewers will be not only meeting Robin’s mom, but her stepmom as well.

“We’ll meet Robin’s new stepmom, who wants to sing at her wedding,” the co-creator explained. “And Robin’s mom, whom we’ve said almost nothing about, will also be a factor, whether we meet her or not. We’ll be exploring why Robin hasn’t talked to her. Her personality will help explain Robin in the same way her dad’s did.”

Could we potentially also get a visit from Robin’s teen alter-ego, Robin Sparkles? It’s totally possible according to actress Cobie Smulders. Believing that they’ve run out of ideas of how they could uncover more Robin Sparkles videos, Smulders suggests that “a song to the groom at the wedding” could potentially happen.

“I think she’ll have to come back in some way,” she told IGN. “I just don’t know which way they’re going to take it yet.”
