“I didn’t know how Ted was going to meet the Mother,” Radnor confessed during an interview with CBS’ “This Morning” about the plot of this backward love story. “I was finding out the unfolding mystery week to week along with everyone else.” Surprisingly, that’s the way he preferred it. “I found it was better for me to play naïve present Ted rather than future narrator Ted. He didn’t know. So I didn’t want to know too much.”
But once Ted did learn the ending to the nine-season series, he couldn’t help but tear up.
“Well, just to clarify, I wasn’t heave crying at the gym. I got a little misty as I think everyone did. It’s so masterfully written. It was an emotional read,” Radnor explained. The cast was then asked if they were worried that the final episode, “Last Forever,” wouldn’t meet up to fans’ expectations. The five actors quickly responded with a resounding “no.”
“Everyone was a little concerned mid-season as to what the end game was,” Neil Patrick Harris, who plays the legendary Barney Stinson, admitted. “But once we were confident we know what they were doing it justified the long play of the show. It’s not like we end the final scene, ‘And then they met. Goodnight, everybody.’ It’s deeper than that.”
According to Jason Segel, the creators of “HIMYM” have been planning out the final episode of the series since the pilot!
“This is the ending we conceived when we conceived the show 10 years ago,” Carter Bays bolstered Segel’s statement during an interview with Zap2it. “It's what we've been steadfastly writing towards ever since."
