How to live longer is a quest of any man. After all, it is the reason why men try to find ways and means to cure diseases and add more years to one’s life. As far as doctors and health experts are concerned, the key to increasing longevity is to live a healthy lifestyle.
One of the ways that you can do this is to follow a type of diet, which could potentially lower your risk of diseases. As per Express' report, this diet boosts life expectancy and could help you live longer.
The Adventist Diet
This is a diet that loves plants! Indeed, the Seventh-day Adventist diet is a kind of diet that mainly involves the consumption of plant-based foods. This excludes animal products and alcohol. Caffeinated drinks are likewise excluded from their daily meals.
Accordingly, a study which involved about 96,000 Adventists, tried to establish the link between their diet, their lifestyle, and diseases. As per the study, those who indulge in a vegan or plant-based diet were said to have a lower risk of obesity. They also had lower risks of developing high blood pressure and diabetes. The latter diseases have been connected to the development of heart disease and even linked to an early death.
Aside from the previously mentioned diseases where the research participants were shown to have a lower risk, it was also discovered that their risk for colon cancer was significantly reduced. There was a striking disparity between them and those who indulge in animal-based food products.
Blue Zones
Loma Linda, a place in California that is home to many Seventh-Day Adventists, is considered as one of the blue zones. These “zones” refer to places where the population tends to live longer than the average. Many of them reach even 100 years old.
Aside from Loma Linda, other known blue zones include Okinawa in Japan, Ikaria in Greece, and Sardina in Italy. Those in blue zones normally indulge in plant-based diets. Staple foods include whole grains and beans.
So if you want to live longer, perhaps you may consider making the big shift into a plant-based diet. After all, Adventists and those living in blue zones are living proof of its efficacy.
