Sprint Galaxy Nexus Release Date: LTE Device Could Launch ThisMonth, Leaked Document Reveals
Sprint subscribers may be seeing a new handset from the carrier sooner than expected. A release date has not been officially announced for the Galaxy Nexus LTE, but a leaked document says that the device will debut on April 22nd, according to The Verge. Reuters

Google introduced the latest version of its mobile operating system, the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, last month at Google I/O 2012. During the launch, the search giant announced that over-the-air (OTA) updates of Jelly Bean would be rolled out in mid-July for devices like Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus and Xoom.

However, thanks to the talented minds over at XDA forums, the Jelly Bean ROM, which is flashable on the existing GSM Galaxy Nexus via ClockworkMod Recovery, is already available. When it comes to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, it's quite evident from .1 increase in the version number that the new version of the OS is not a revolutionary update that the Ice Cream Sandwich was. However, the latest version does bring some exciting new features and major tweaks, including Google Now, a Siri-like voice assistant, improved Home screen, Project Butter and improved camera app, among others.

Adding to that, Google pushed out a 12.6 MB OTA update, Android 4.1.1, for the new Nexus 7 tablet and GSM/HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus earlier this week. Now, as Redmond Pie noted, if you are a Galaxy Nexus owner, you have two options to get the update installed on your device - either wait for an OTA update or install it manually.

Given below are the steps to follow for a manual installation of the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean on GSM Galaxy Nexus (Courtesy Redmond Pie).

Before going ahead, please note that you will void your warranty after rooting your device. IBTimes will not be held responsible if any user loses data or the device gets damaged while following the steps explained below. Users must proceed at their own risk.

Step 1: Unlock bootloader of and root your Galaxy Nexus. Also, flash ClockworkMod Recovery.

Step 2: Go to Settings > About on your Galaxy Nexus and note the Android version and build number.

Step 3: Check the build.prop file under /system to confirm if your Galaxy Nexus is a takju or a yakju variant.

Step 4: With both the information in hand, go to this thread over at XDA-Developers forum and download the appropriate .zip file to update to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean (Build: JRO03C).

Step 5: Transfer the .zip file to the root of the /sdcard directory on your Galaxy Nexus.

Step 6: Reboot into ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery.

Step 7: Take a nandroid backup of your device.

Step 8: Choose install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > [file you downloaded in Step 4]. This will flash the Jelly Bean update on your Galaxy Nexus.

Step 9: After the flashing process is complete, select reboot system now from CWM's main menu.

The Galaxy Nexus should now boot into Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean (Build: JRO03C). For more information, click here.
