How Jennifer Aniston Dealt With Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie Affair
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt were once Hollywood's golden couple before the actor met Angelina Jolie. And according to the "Friends" star, it took a long time before she could get over her relationship with Pitt.
Aniston and Pitt were married for five years before they divorced in 2005. But while Pitt immediately started dating Jolie, Aniston revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that she was in a "lengthy period of mourning" after her split from the actor.
The "Marley and Me" star said that she "grieved" after her marriage with Pitt ended. "There are many stages of grief. It’s sad, something coming to an end. It cracks you open, in a way - cracks you open to feeling," Aniston explained at the time. "When you try to avoid the pain, it creates greater pain."
Aniston also shared her thoughts on what it is like having her love life and breakup splashed all over the media for the world to scrutinize. "I’m a human being, having a human experience in front of the world. I wish it weren’t in front of the world," she confessed. "I try really hard to rise above it."
When Aniston and Pitt finalized their divorce on Oct. 2, 2005, the exes said in a statement that the split had been amicable and that they had "exited the relationship as beautifully as they had entered it."
Despite this, it took over a decade before Aniston and Pitt reunited in a public setting. In February, the "Fury" actor made an appearance at Aniston's lavish 50th birthday bash.
According to People, Pitt had been invited by the actress who wanted all the people she loves to celebrate the occasion with her. The actor reportedly attended the party held at the Sunset Tower in West Hollywood to show his support for his ex-wife, Entertainment Tonight reported.
Following their divorce, Pitt moved on with Jolie, but the actress filed for divorce in 2016. Aniston also tied the knot once more, this time with Justin Theroux, but the two announced their split last year.
