Sarah Ferguson previously gave Kate Middleton a piece of advice on love in 2007 amid rumors that she and Prince William would get engaged soon. But by the looks of it, the Duchess of Cambridge had to learn the hard way first.

While speaking with Harper’s Bazaar, the Duchess of York urged Middleton to stay with Prince William no matter what. The mom of two also encouraged the Duchess of Cambridge to not let anyone take her then-boyfriend away from her.

“Prince or no prince, love that man and that love will hold him. I married my boy, who happened to be a prince and a sailor because I loved him – and still do – my only condition being, ‘I have to be with you,’” Fergie said.

Prince Andrew’s ex-wife was seeming talking about her regrets over her failed marriage to the Duke of York. Ferguson said that if it was only up to her, she wouldn’t want to divorce the love of her life.

But due to the unfavorable circumstances that the former couple was in, they were left with no other choice but to go their separate ways. Fergie and Prince Andrew divorced in 1996 after a 10-year marriage.

Meanwhile, it seems that Middleton didn’t heed Ferguson’s advice back in 2007. Instead of announcing her engagement to Prince William, the royal couple reportedly split for the second time around.

At that time, the Duke of Cambridge was still unsure as to whether or not he really wanted to settle down with Middleton. Prince Charles had a conversation with his eldest son about the future of his relationship, and Prince William thought that it was best for them to break up.

But it didn’t also take the dad of three very long to realize that he really wanted Middleton to be his wife. Shortly after their split, the royal couple got back together. In 2010, they announced their engagement to the entire world.
