Kate Middleton paid homage to Queen Elizabeth II as the royal family marked the first Remembrance Day since the historic monarch's death
The Princess of Wales wore an all-black ensemble by Self-Portrait when she attended the Festival of Remembrance at London's Royal Albert Hall on Saturday with her husband, Prince William.
Middleton honored her late grandmother-in-law. who died on Sept. 8, by wearing two pieces of jewelry from the Queen's vault: the Bahrain pearl drop earrings and a four-strand pearl choker necklace with a diamond piece in the center, People reported.
Queen Elizabeth wore the choker necklace for a state banquet in Bangladesh in 1983. The late Queen received the Bahrain pearl drop earrings as a wedding gift in 1947 from the ruler of Bahrain.
The earrings were made from a shell with seven pearls, according to Her Majesty's Jewel Vault. They feature a large round diamond with a smaller circle diamond hanging below it. Three baguette diamonds hang from there, with three more small diamonds making their way to the dangling pearl.
Queen Elizabeth wore the pearl choker during the 1980s and 1990s. Princess Diana also wore it in 1982 at a state banquet for Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, staged at Hampton Court Palace.
Saturday's event wasn't the first time Middleton wore the two pieces. The princess chose them to wear for Queen Elizabeth's state funeral and committal service in September.
Middleton previously wore the choker as well as the earrings for Prince Philip's funeral in 2021.
Prince William's wife was also seen wearing the same pearl earrings at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June and on Remembrance Sunday in 2019.
"Pearls are one of the very few jewelry items you can wear in mourning and are inextricably linked with Queen Elizabeth and her personal jewelry legacy," Bethan Holt, author of "The Queen: 70 Years of Majestic Style," previously told People. "It's a symbol of mourning a monarch but also a grandmother or great-grandmother."
Middleton also previously paid tribute to her late mother-in-law during a Remembrance Day celebration.
Last year, she channeled Princess Diana by wearing a military-style jacket by Alexander McQueen, a pair of pearl earrings and a wide-brimmed hat. Middleton's headpiece was similar to the one the late royal donned in 1992 for the same annual event.
