Kate Middleton also overshadowed Prince William the way Meghan Markle did to Prince Harry.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have already kicked off their tour in South Africa. However, some netizens felt that the trip was more about Markle.

One netizen commented on Prince Harry and Markle’s Instagram post and said that the pictures were “Meghan-centric” before adding “More Harry, please!” Another online user called it “Meghan tour” and “Meghan show.“

However, according to News.com.au’s royal expert Daniela Elser, the Duchess of Cambridge also overshadowed Prince William when they toured North America. Just like Markle, more people got interested with the future queen consort.

“The same dynamic played out when Wills and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge toured North America after they tied the knot in 2011. The future king, once the major draw for the hordes had been demoted to a largely supporting role,” Elser wrote.

Prince Charles also experienced the same with Princess Diana. According to the late Princess of Wales she didn’t expect the media’s interest in her and she knew that Prince Charles didn’t feel good that more people were interested in his wife than him, the future king.

“Now, if you’re a man, like my husband a proud man, you mind about that if you hear it every day for four weeks. And you feel low about it, instead of feeling happy and sharing it,” Princess Diana shared about Prince Charles not willing to share the spotlight with her.

Elser added that this fate is not exclusive to born-and-bred Windsor men. Prince Philip also struggled to contend with playing second fiddle to his wife, Queen Elizabeth II.

In related news, Prince Harry and Markle’s South Africa tour is considered successful as the couple has successfully redeemed their reputation. According to an insider, Markle suggested to take on more engagements in South Africa while Prince Harry traveled to other countries.

However, she was advised to keep her engagements private to avoid overshadowing Prince Harry’s outings and the duchess uncharacteristically accepted the advice without complaint. A source said that this time, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are “really listening.”
