Although the public often looks forward to observing the royal family as they ring in the holidays, this year will be a special time for Kate Middleton and Prince William. Following a briefing by Kensington Palace, the couple is expected to deliver a festive surprise this holiday season.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are often looked at as the model royal couple due to their tendency to stick to traditions and follow the rules. However, before the year is over, the two are expected to shake up the monarchy and “break from tradition.”

During an appearance on ABC’s “Heirpod,” royal expert Omid Scobie revealed the couple will make a “big announcement: within the next two weeks. “We will be hearing about a new initiative from Prince William and some other news as well,” he explained.

“Next year is a big one for Kate. She is going to be really focused on her early years development. That is something she has been involved in for a long time now. It has all been bitty for anyone who follows this,” he added.

When the new year arrives, Scobie expects the couple to make major changes. “Apparently 2020 is a year when it is all tied together. So, yes, a busy year for them,” he revealed.

News of Kate and Wiliam’s plans to stray from tradition comes amid reports of rifts within the royal family. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who have been at the center of debates after breaking several traditions, will be spending Christmas abroad, instead of with the family at Queen Elizabeth’s estate in Sandringham.

Although it is unclear whether William and Kate’s announcement will cause debates, royal fans will have to wait for updates about the couple’s next steps.
