It would seem that the trend among healthy eaters is that the tastier the food gets, the unhealthier it becomes. This isn’t so because there is one snack, which has been affirmed by research to contribute to boosting life expectancy greatly.

The Amazing Nuts

A recent study highlighted during the ESC Congress 2019, along with the World Congress of Cardiology, revealed that when you eat nuts at least twice a week, you would be able to lower your risk of suffering from cardiovascular disease. The rate of risk reduction is at 17%, which is already a significant number.

Nuts are rich sources of unsaturated fats. As per the British Heart Foundation, bad cholesterol is increased when the diet is made up mostly of unsaturated fats. When the number of bad cholesterol is higher in the body, there is a higher risk of suffering from cardiovascular diseases. Heart attack cases have been linked to high bad cholesterol levels, otherwise known as LDL cholesterol.

Aside from unsaturated fats, nuts also have minerals, protein, vitamins, fiber, polyphenols, and phytosterols. All these are known to contribute positively to the heart. The study included 5,432 adults. These adults had no history of heart diseases and were aged 35 up. The participants were selected randomly from different Iranian counties.

Astonishing Almonds

Aside from the study of nuts in general, there was another study conducted at Aston University in Birmingham. Led by Prof. Helen Griffiths, a professor in Biomedical Sciences, they found out that almonds have an astounding effect on heart health. According to the study, and as reported by Express, the number of antioxidants in the bloodstream is increased by almonds. Aside from this, almonds also help in reducing blood pressure. It likewise helps in improving blood flow.

As per the researchers, they consider almonds as a superfood. It greatly helps the body in reducing the risk of heart disease. By eating this tasty treat, it could lower blood pressure and reduce heart attack risk.
